The king of fighters xi ps2#
There's also the final boss characters and the PS2 exclusives (that I already briefly touched on) but I figure this dumb post is already plenty long enough.

In total this game has 5 mid-bosses, which is pretty crazy and not something they do often or even ever again after this.Īnd that's basically it. Here we have another main character/final boss combo, this time hailing from the even-more-obscure Buriki One, which was a 3D fighting game for the Hyper Neo Geo 64. Halfway through Arcade Mode you would fight a singular character and whoever it was would depend on how you finished matches before them. Now while that's it for the teams, this game actually a significant amount of single entry/boss characters.

This is definitely one of the most unusual canon teams in the series and I love it for that reason and the fact that Shingo, of all characters, was the one kinda keeping them together subtly shows how much he's grown from his fanboy days back in 97. Kyo and Iori are unable to retrieve the Treasure from Ash and as if it that wasn't enough, Iori's Riot of the Blood activates and he starts going crazy, fatally wounding Shingo in the process and was only saved because this gave Ash an opening to steal Iori's Treasure and leave him powerless in the middle of his rampage, which of course leads to a moveset and design overhaul for Iori in KOF XII and XIII. he actually does! Unfortunately for them, things don't go very well. Shingo promises Chizuru he would get Kyo and Iori to team up again and join the KOF tournament as a team and. So back in 2003, Ash stole Chizuru's Yata Mirror which rendered her powerless and bedridden, and unless Kyo and Iori joined forces again, it would be near impossible to recover her Sacred Treasure. On top of that, the team after this game would go back to it's roots, Terry would go back to his classic attire and Andy and Joe would come back, while Kim went on to lead his own team as normal and Duck, unfortunately, has yet to return.Īnd so it ends with this. Now, Duck is a really cool character and I really hope he comes back, but this is still a pretty drastic change for the team. And now rounding up the team is none other than. Obviously this means Chang and Choi are not even in this game. Joining the team for the first time is Kim Kaphwan, what makes his inclusion on this team especially surprising is that he has always been leading his own team ever since KOF 94. However, both Joe AND Andy are gone this time, but that's not the only oddity here. Back in KOF 2003, this team saw it's first ever change by removing Andy and adding Tizoc from MOTW instead, Terry's design also changed to that of MOTW which (made Joe look a bit out of place in retrospect) carried over to XI. Historically the Fatal Fury team has nearly always been Terry, Andy and Joe alongside either Mai or Blue Mary in the games where teams were made of 4. Which brings us to KOF 2003 and XI, well really XI specifically, which had a lot of traditional teams changed and even a few franchise staples completely gone. This is mostly due to the newly introduced Striker system which introduced Assists into the games and now we had teams of 4 (3 main fighters, 1 Striker), so by this point they were more liberal with who they included and excluded but, again, nothing major.

When get to the NESTS Saga and KOF 99, things start to change a bit. There were some changes here and there (most notably Yuri replaced Takuma, Leona replaced Heidern and Iori went two sets of teams because he's not a very happy camper) but nothing massive, instead each game would add new teams rather than change established ones. As far as the Orochi saga goes, most of the games of that era do stick with the established team set in KOF 94. So I had a look through all the mainline KOF games and their rosters just to see how much changes from game to game. With all these changes going on, the roster also saw some significant shifts going forward.

But it didn't stop there as we also got brand new mechanics to mess with, notably the fact that they ditched the traditional KOF format of 1v1 battles between teams of 3 members for a full blown 3 on 3 tag fighter, not completely unlike something like MvC2 or DBFZ. The protagonist for this particular arc was, for all intents and purposes up until this point, a villain, he was also very flamboyant and effeminate, all things that set him apart from past headliners such as Kyo and K'. XI was the second game in what was the "Tales of Ash saga" portion of the series and it was a rather experimental time for KOF. There's many reasons as to why and I'm not gonna waste any time with that, because I want to focus on it's roster and just how unusual it is compared to most games in the series.

So King of Fighters XI happens to be in my top 3 KOF games, might even be my favorite one.
